“I want to support AMBOS Ceramics because people who are involved need and are experiencing relief through art and therapy. I want to support queer artists, migrants and refugees. AMBOS provides relief through art and therapy to LGBTQ+ migrants and refugees who are at high risk. This program is providing safe, nurturing space to people who need it. I think it’s a beautiful program and I want to lend whatever support I can.”

“Law for Black Lives provides legal and policy research to movement organizations in order to implement long-term transformation. They support Black led base building organizations like National Bailout, People's Coalition for Safety and Freedom and the Black Freedom Project. They are committed to liberation and self-determination of all Black people-including women and LGBTQIA people.”

ARTIST

Eve Fowler, expanding from a foundation in photography, creates work that coalesces art and language. Her two-dimensional works take the form of billboards, posters, prints, and signs, using mediums such as neon, paint, and vinyl. In addition, she also creates installations, films, and sound pieces, often resulting from collaborations with other artists, filmmakers, and writers. Fowler’s practice is concerned with the power of words, language, and cultural biases as those topics relate to gender politics and queerness, in a contemporary and historical context.

And Sweet and Deep Slow Lives, both 2021, are part of a series of collages that embrace an aestheticism of free association or automatic writing. Almost in the vein and style of a quick ransom note, Fowler opens various books and repeatedly and quickly extracts, cuts, and pastes a list of words or phases that resonate with her.

CHARITIES

AMBOS Ceramics provides trauma informed ceramics to LGBTQ+ asylum seekers in Tijuana. This Ceramics studio started during the pandemic, intended as a temporary program to provide a therapeutic outlet for the residents of Jardin de Las Mariposas, an LGBTQ+ Center and Rehabilitation Shelter for migrants and other refugees in Tijuana. As the pandemic continued, the program became an invaluable outlet for residents. During 2020 all of the ceramics classes were held virtually, with Los Angeles based artist-educators Gerardo Monterrubio and Patricia Yossen leading instruction.
