AVENUES FOR JUSTICE

Avenues for Justice (AFJ) was founded in the 1970’s by Lower East Side residents and has continued to rescue at-risk and arrested youth from criminal activity, rerouting them to prevention services which include educational and tutoring services, employment and job training, and social and mental health services. AFJ serves as many as 600 youth and young adults each year across New York City ages 13 -24 who have been arrested or who are at-risk of arrest. Services include court advocacy, tutoring, job training with certification, life skills workshops, and college and career services through AFJ’s three program locations at the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse and two community centers in Harlem and the Lower East Side.

CHILDREN’S AID

Children’s Aid helps children in poverty to succeed and thrive. We do this by providing comprehensive support to children, youth, and their families in targeted high-needs New York City neighborhoods. Children’s Aid is a professional powerhouse of solutions for young people. We are teachers and social workers, coaches and health care providers. We know what it takes to ensure children grow up strong and healthy, and ready to thrive in school and life: excellent education and health care, social-emotional support, and strong, stable families.

COALITION FOR THE HOMELESS

The Coalition for the Homeless is the nation’s oldest advocacy and direct service organization helping homeless individuals and families. We believe that affordable housing, sufficient food and the chance to work for a living wage are fundamental rights in a civilized society. Since our inception in 1981, the Coalition has worked through litigation, public education and direct services to ensure that these goals are realized, and in that time has given more than one million people a way off the streets.

FOOD BANK FOR NEW YORK CITY

Since 1983, Food Bank For New York City has been the city’s major hunger-relief organization working to end hunger throughout the five boroughs. Nearly one in five New Yorkers relies on Food Bank for food and other resources. Through its network of more than 1,000 charities and schools citywide, Food Bank provided more than 80 million free meals last year for New Yorkers in need.

HARLEM CHILDREN’S ZONE

Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) is breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty with on-the-ground, all-around programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life. From early childhood, education, and career programs to community outreach and wellness initiatives, HCZ opens possibilities for more people in more places. Guided by a generation of evidence, HCZ is rooting out poverty on every front across the nation and worldwide.

SAFE HORIZON

Safe Horizon is the largest non-profit victim services agency in the United States. They touch the lives of more than 250,000 children, adults, and families affected by crime and abuse throughout New York City each year. They partner with governmental and other community agencies and also advocate for policies on a local, state, and national level on behalf of those affected by violence and abuse.

THE PHOTOGRAPHY PROGRAM AT BARD MATERIALS FUND

The Photography Program at Bard Materials Fund is a collaboration between ARTISTS SUPPORT and the Bard College Photography Program. Our goal is to make the program accessible by raising money to cover the price of costly photographic materials and gear. Each student in need will receive a kit at the beginning of every semester. This kit will include all the equipment and materials needed in order to create work freely and complete the photography course, without any financial burden.
