La Más is an LA-based nonprofit that focuses on community led building practices, like low income housing developments, as well as working with minority-owned small businesses to develop storefronts and community spaces. The work they are doing is so important right now and is deeply inspiring to the CHH team. — Charlap Hyman & Herrero

ARTISTS

Charlap Hyman & Herrero (CHH) is an LA/NY architecture and design firm that takes a fully integrated approach to conceptualizing and executing spaces in their totality. Principals Adam Charlap Hyman and Andre Herrero, whose backgrounds are in interior design and architecture, lead a practice that considers all aspects of the built environment, from site plan to furniture. Working in various typologies – including buildings, set designs, stores and houses – CHH endeavors to consider divergent art forms and the experiences of multiple senses.

These large lamps in the forms of shells, molded in plastic, are envisioned sitting on the floor as if washed ashore or hanging from the ceiling. Transforming any space into a grotto of sorts, these handmade fixtures were designed by Charlap Hyman & Herrero and Green River Project in a limited edition of 50.

CHARITY

LA Más designs and builds initiatives that promote neighborhood resilience and elevates the agency of working class communities of color. We envision a Northeast LA where communities of color have equitable access to the power and resources needed to shape their futures.

LA Más approaches community development by honoring local knowledge and culture while bringing together the power of informal and formal systems.
